Logo Development: Simple Logos Are Not Always Simple

Behind every product or every company there is a simple but the most challenging aspect, the logo development. Every product that is meant to be sold in the market or every company that is listed or not listed on the stock exchanges has to have a unique logo. Logo designing and development is the basic requirement of every tangible item. Even professionals like CFP, CFA, and medical, etc. have a unique logo to describe their profession. For a common man it may look very simple and easy to design and develop a logo .Is designing a logo really that easy? The answers are no.

A logo has to be designed and developed as per the specific industry, sector and company. Every company has got its own corporate strategy, mission, vision, and goal and so, a logo has to be designed after taking into consideration these corporate values. If there is a mismatch, the logo proves to be a meaningless. While developing a logo, the logo developer has two strategic key issues:

  • The size of the logo
  • The design of the logo
  • The basic structure of the logo
  • The logo must reflect the company’s goal and corporate values
  • The font size
  • Lastly, where and how to place the logo.

The logo designer is faced with challenges like whether the logo would suit the industry and the product requirement, while the logo have a public appeal, whether the logo would reflect the meaning of the product , its tagline, etc.

The biggest challenge of all is that no two logos should not be same in any way be it its design, structure or pattern. The creativity, imagination, thought process of the logo developer is always tested. The logo designer needs to talk to their clients to fully understand their requirements as this will ensure that the logo designing process is smooth and end product matches their expectations. This can be done by conducting a design brief, which includes an interview or questionnaire filling with the client.

The logo designer should develop the logo by working around the brief and after doing research. After creating rough drafts of the logo design only the most appropriate should be presented to the client to get final approval.

Sometimes it had also happened that a product had failed not because of good marketing and promotional strategies but because a proper logo was not developed.
