Common Mistakes Designers Should Avoid During Client Meetings

Being human every person has a right to do mistakes but a famous quote says: “All men make mistakes, but only wise men learn from their mistakes”. The people who have made mistakes have a great opportunity to learn, to grow your skills, and become a stronger designer for your clients and your career and on the other hand a person who is new in this field can avoid making mistakes by learning from others experiences. Some mistakes which can be avoided by a person are as following:

• Being Late for Meetings: Make sure you organize your documentation, notes or any other papers are prepared a night before the meeting. If you are thinking to organize your documentation before the meetings then you’re your work will not be done properly or you will be late but in both the conditions you will lose the client. It will create an embarrassing condition for you in front of the client.

• Dressing Inappropriately: “Dressing makes a man perfect”, a famous quote which is heard by every single person. Your first look will make your impression in the eyes of the client. So when you are going out for a meeting with a client makes sure you are dressed in formal business attire. Formal business attire includes business pants, suitable formal shoes and a business shirt.

• Not using proper contracts and agreements: A person is really happy when he is landing up with his first client. His happiness is so much that he sometimes do not bother to sign the proper contracts and agreements. It is not important that all the clients are dishonest. In that case, you must have proper documentation before taking up any project.

• Trying to do everything yourself: Finding clients, organizing meetings, preparing documents, answering phone calls, developing websites etc. is not an easy task to do for a one single person. One needs the help of the other. If you are thinking to do all the things of your own you will surely get exhausted and make mistakes.

• Not being firm enough: In the industry of Designing nothing can be done in 5-10 minutes. The biggest mistake done by a designer is he is not firm enough. Be sure about how much work you can do in a particular time. Fake promises done by clients or just to please the clients if you are doing more than your ability you will be in a miserable condition.

• Technological distractions: Do not take extra gadgets along with you as that can distract the mind of the clients. Just take the gadgets which are really necessary. Not only the mind of the client but even your mind can be distracted which can lead you to lose some of the information given by the client. Make sure you are looking into the eyes of the client while talking to him.

• Giving Quotes on the fly: Hold the quote on the spot, especially during your first meeting. Make sure you are quoting the meeting in a formal way. Never feel pleasures during the meeting.
